“This species is one of the rarest and fourth-longest penguins in the world. The Maori name of the yellow-eyed penguin is Hoiho, which roughly translates “noise shouter.” It comes from the call sounds that the penguins make. In the year 2004, a bacterial infection killed about 60% of these penguins, resulting in a major threat to the species.”
